Lettie Homestead Fading
Fog helps us restore a sense of depth in a scene. Our binocular vision is good at recognizing that an image is flat, without depth. Tricks, like shooting in fog, rain or snow that make objects that are farther away look farther away, override our eyes' sense that what we see is two dimentional.
